From Entratico and Zandobbio’s hill to Gorlago’s historical alleys

An easy ride with little elevation gain.
From Grone, we set off towards Gorlago along the Cherio River cycle path.
🏞 Once we reach Entratico, we climb up Via Corno to reach the restaurant Da Mario in Cascina. Let’s stop here to enjoy a magnificent view of the valley!

We continue along a wide dirt path that descends towards Zandobbio and, after passing behind the Cascina degli Alpini, we take the trail that leads into the park.

🌉 Crossing a scenic bridge, we finally arrive in the historic center of Gorlago. From the outside, we can admire several noble courtyards, including the garden of Villa Siotto Pintor, inhabited until the early 2000s and now owned by the local parish.

The Hills of Entratico and the Buca del Corno

Above the village of Entratico, you can reach hilly landscapes with breathtaking views over the middle Val Cavallina. Our route comes close to (but does not cross) the Buca del Corno, a cave used since the Neolithic and also well known in the 1800s. To learn more, visit the website: https://www.bucadelcorno.it/. With a small detour, you can admire it from the outside or visit it through one of the tours periodically organized by speleologists.

The Marble of Zandobbio

After a stretch of trail through the woods on the hills of Zandobbio, a clearing among the trees reveals a large quarry. This is where the local white-pink marble is extracted—used for millennia for its beauty and workability. In Bergamo—and beyond—important monuments were built using this prized material, such as the Colleoni Chapel and several works in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, the Contarini Fountain in Piazza Vecchia, and even Porta San Giacomo.

The Historic Center of Gorlago

The destination of our itinerary, the heart of the town of Gorlago, is one of those unexpected and non-touristy places. After crossing the picturesque bridge over the Cherio River, at the border with Carobbio degli Angeli, every street we walk through is full of surprises. Our gaze is drawn to the many courtyards of the old town center. Peeking in, you’ll see beautiful gardens and historic buildings, mostly private.
A visit to Villa Siotto Pintor is definitely worth it (more info at https://villasiottopintor.wordpress.com/), and you can arrange a tour by contacting the volunteers via email or checking the events on the site https://www.terredelvescovado.it/.
